4.0mm single core, double insulated cable on a 100m drum. Red PVC inner with a separate PVC outer sheath over a single copper conductor. Used where mechanical protection and double-insulation rating are needed without the bulk of orange circular. Manufactured to AS/NZS 5000.1.
Used for dedicated appliance circuit actives and neutrals (oven, cooktop, air-conditioning), and sub-circuit wiring where the double-insulation rating is required by the installation context. SDI is a workhorse for residential and light commercial sub-mains where the installation passes through wall cavities or ceiling spaces and needs the additional insulation layer. Also common for short consumer mains and sub-mains to detached garages, granny flats, and secondary distribution boards.
Licensed installation per AS/NZS 3000. 4mm² SDI typically protected at 25A or 32A depending on the appliance. Common for installations needing both higher current rating and additional mechanical protection. The red colour identifies this as active conductor (single-phase A phase or active under traditional Australian colour scheme) — verify your installation's colour scheme matches the wiring rules in force.
